چکیده
The paper describes new material of Allodaposuchus from Spain. This taxon is particularly important to resolve the phylogenetic relationships of Crocodylia. Many characters are provided to justify the erection of the new species, but as the material is poor (as for many species of the genus), the comparisons are difficult. As often when the material is fragmentary, the authors try to find diagnostic characters, and often, in my opinion, use poor characters (intraspecific variability, weak differences...) (see below). So, I am not convinced by this new species. At least, the presentation of the characters should be revised, and a comparative diagnosis would be clearer when the character differs from only one other Allodaposuchus species (differs with ... in having...). The phylogenetic analysis is well conducted, but I strongly disagree with the phylogenetic results obtained by the authors, and with some of the coding, but it is beyond the scope of this review, and that will be discussed in a paper in preparation. Nevertheless, the results should be more extensively discussed (see below), and the matrix in a nexus format should be provided.

A new species of Allodaposuchus (Eusuchia, Crocodylia) from the Maastrichtian (Late Cretaceous) of Spain: phylogenetic and paleobiological implications
Background. The Late Cretaceous is a keystone period to understand the origin and early radiation of Crocodylia, the group containing all extant lineages of crocodilians. Among the taxa described from the latest Cretaceous of Europe, the genus Allodaposuchus is one of the most common but also one of the most controversial. However, because of its fragmentary record, several issues regarding its...
متن کاملNew Crocodyliforms from Southwestern Europe and Definition of a Diverse Clade of European Late Cretaceous Basal Eusuchians
The late Campanian-early Maastrichtian site of Lo Hueco (Cuenca, Spain) has provided a set of well-preserved crocodyliform skull and lower jaw remains, which are described here and assigned to a new basal eusuchian taxon, Lohuecosuchus megadontos gen. et sp. nov. The reevaluation of a complete skull from the synchronous site of Fox-Amphoux (Department of Var, France) allows us to define a secon...
متن کاملAllodaposuchus palustris sp. nov. from the Upper Cretaceous of Fumanya (South-Eastern Pyrenees, Iberian Peninsula): Systematics, Palaeoecology and Palaeobiogeography of the Enigmatic Allodaposuchian Crocodylians
The controversial European genus Allodaposuchus is currently composed of two species (A. precedens, A. subjuniperus) and it has been traditionally considered a basal eusuchian clade of crocodylomorphs. In the present work, the new species A. palustris is erected on the base of cranial and postcranial remains from the lower Maastrichtian of the southern Pyrenees. Phylogenetic analyses here inclu...
متن کاملUpper Cretaceous planktic foraminiferal from the Zagros basin (north-northwest Shiraz), Iran
The litho-and biostratigraphy of Upper Cretaceous (Gurpi Formation) has been investigated within a well-exposed section at the northern limb of Pey zard anticline, Abnow area, Southern Iran. The studied section consists mainly of grey marl, calcareous pyritic shale, and argillaceous limestones. The Formation unconformably overlies Sarvak Formation and the Tarbur Formation overlies it unconforma...
متن کاملA New Crocodylian from the Late Maastrichtian of Spain: Implications for the Initial Radiation of Crocodyloids
BACKGROUND The earliest crocodylians are known primarily from the Late Cretaceous of North America and Europe. The representatives of Gavialoidea and Alligatoroidea are known in the Late Cretaceous of both continents, yet the biogeographic origins of Crocodyloidea are poorly understood. Up to now, only one representative of this clade has been known from the Late Cretaceous, the basal crocodylo...
